Keeping of Chickens

On February 1, 2021, the Governing Body of Lake Quivira, Kansas adopted Ordinance No. 315 to allow the harboring, keeping, or maintaining of chickens within the City limits of Lake Quivira.

You are allowed a maximum of six chickens.  No roosters are allowed.  Zoning restrictions also apply.

You must apply for, and be issued, a City license and pay applicable fees prior to bringing chickens into the City.  The application will be reviewed by the Building Official to ensure compliance with City Code and Zoning Regulations before the issuance of a City license.

Once approved, a City license will be issued and will remain effective through December 31st.  Fees will not be prorated.

A renewal application will need to be completed annually, no later than December 1st (or on the first business day of December).  If approved and not otherwise revoked, the term of the renewal license is for one year, commencing on January 1st and expiring on December 31st of that calendar year.  A late fee of $5 per month will apply for each month after January 1st if not renewed on time.

Please review Ordinance No. 315 for setback regulations and coop requirements prior to making an application.
