A Third Class City and a World-Class Community

Lake Quivira, Kansas, is a third-class city and located in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The residential, gated community straddles two counties – Johnson and Wyandotte – and encircles a sparkling 224-acre, spring-fed lake. Comprised of 396 single-family homes with a population of just over 1,000, Lake Quivira offers beautiful, natural surroundings, abundant amenities and recreational opportunities, and a friendly, tight-knit community.

Lake Quivira is located at 39°2′33″N 94°46′11″W (39.042371, −94.769810). According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.56 square miles, of which, 1.41 square miles is land and 0.15 square miles is water.

The unique community is governed by the City of Lake Quivira as well as the homes association, known as Quivira, Inc. These entities work together to ensure the safety of the community and to enhance and protect its assets.

The City is governed by a mayor/council form of government with five council members. City offices, departments and court are housed in the City Hall, located at the entrance to Lake Quivira. The City is responsible for police and fire protection, water and sewer system, public roadways within the city’s boundaries, the city’s three dams, and construction codes and permits.

Quivira, Inc. is a 501(c)(4) private community and tax-exempt organization. The organization is governed by a ten-member Board of Directors. Designated Board Members chair eight standing committees, each comprised of residents and other members. Quivira, Inc. oversees the country club, including the golf course and community/fitness center, as well as the entrance/front-gate security, and road and grounds maintenance.
