Dams

The City of Lake Quivira would not be the vibrant community it is today without a strong dam infrastructure. The Kansas Department of Agriculture has jurisdiction and oversight over our dam system, including the primary dam with two spillways, and two smaller dams for the silt basins on the east and south ends of the lake. Without a strong functioning dam, we wouldn't have our biggest amenity, the lake. Current and former mayors and councils have and continue to maintain focus on this critical infrastructure.

During 2024, the City completed a $2.4 million renovation of the west downstream spillway. Check here for more details about this milestone project.
