Mayor's Message: Happy 2025 to all the residents of Lake Quivira!
January 8, 2025

I am so proud to serve as mayor for the best city in the world.
We have our city staff and city council to thank for a successful year. City Administrator Kathy Bounds keeps the city running smoothly. Treasurer Annie Noland keeps us in the good graces of the auditors. Your city council of Julie Kurland, Dan McCauley, Mike Pasley, Tray Vedock, and Chip Zimmer are truly dedicated to the betterment of the city. Your Chief of Police Manny Olmos, full-time officer Lieutenant Leif French, and our part-time officers, strive to keep the city safe. We thank Jake Heller for his years of dedication to the community as Building Official. Jake has decided to step down and he continues in the role until a replacement is found. We are fortunate to have such a top-notch crew!
Looking back at 2024 we have a lot to be proud of as a city.
- Independence Day was fun and safe and was capped off by our amazing fireworks show.
- Our 100-year-old spillway was replaced with a $3-million upgrade featuring a new concrete channel, bridge repairs and attractive landscaping.
- City Hall had much-needed roof work and interior repairs completed.
- Holliday Drive maintenance work completed included clearing away brush and fixing the stormwater runoff.
- The Mayor’s Christmas Tree lighting was a great community event with the Dickens Carolers and family photosetting.
- Our city website is up and running with new features to make finding information you need much easier. Please check it out atwww.cityoflakequivira.org.
On the staffing front:
- Chief of Police, Manny Olmos, completed his first year at the helm of LQPD focusing on traffic safety both inside and outside the gate.
- Both the Board of Zoning and Appeals and Planning Commission have been fully staffed.
As we roll into 2025, the city council will be focused on these initiatives:
- Research new revenue sources
- Hire a new Building Official and a Deputy Court Clerk (both part-time positions).
- Work with the Planning Commission to update our Building Zoning and Regulations
- Traffic safety both inside and outside the gate
2025 is an election year for our city. If you are interested in learning more about city government and how you can participate, please reach out to me or any council members. It’s a very fulfilling way to help support our community.
