Updates to Zoning Regulations Coming Soon

March 4, 2026

Dear Lake Quivira Resident,

The City of Lake Quivira is beginning an update to our Zoning Regulations and Subdivision Regulations, the rules that guide how property is used, how development is reviewed, and how change happens over time. This project is about keeping our regulations clear, predictable, and aligned with the community we are today, while protecting the qualities that make Lake Quivira a special place to live.

Why we’re doing this

Over time, regulations can become harder to interpret, may not match current practices, or may not address new issues as consistently as they should. This update is an opportunity to:

  • Clarify rules and improve organization and usability
  • Reduce confusion and make processes more consistent     and transparent
  • Ensure standards reflect Lake Quivira’s priorities     and character
  • Identify “pain points” and modernize where     appropriate, without changing what works

The City is working with Shockey Consulting to support this effort. Their role is to help the City review the current regulations, gather community input, and develop recommended updates for City consideration.

Participation Opportunities (Coming Soon)

Community input will be an important part of this update. The City will share several ways for residents to participate, including an online survey, an in-person community open house, and options to submit comments. Dates, locations, and links will be shared as soon as they are finalized.

What happens next

This process will include: (1) reviewing existing regulations and past development cases, (2) gathering input, (3) drafting recommended updates, and (4) presenting those recommendations for public review and City decision-making.

Thank you for being part of this effort. We value your time and perspective, and we’re committed to an open process. We hope you’ll participate and share what matters most to you.

Sincerely,

City of Lake Quivira
